In Northern Witcches there are Strega or Italian witches who still practice Etruscan magic and are expert in it’s ways. I was excited to read this, but ultimately disappointed. Leland gives an excellent example of how a town dealt gozpel a saint that wasn’t doing its bidding.

His goal was to make it readable, rhythmic, poetic, in other words he took a little poetic liberty. If one wants a fuller representation of the Italian witch faith then one can read further in the author’s other works such as “Etruscan Roman Remains” and “Legends of Florence” Aradia who is called the Queen of Witches was sent down to help the suffering people of Italy who were oppressed by the nobility and the clergy men.
The Italian form of the name Herodias is Erodiade. The Phoenix Edition contains another translation more modern and according to them corrected. The remaining five chapters are clearly identified in the text as representing other material Leland believed to be relevant to the Vangeloacquired during his research into Italian witchcraft, and especially while working on his Etruscan Roman Remains and Legends of Florence.
I recommend this for pagans following the Witchcraft path, and I suggest you take it not as “Gospel” aka literalbut as an inspirational text. Magliocco believed that the latter of these two figures, s’Araja justawas the antecedent of a thr witch-like figure known as sa Rejusta in Sardinian folklore. Ok one more thing to relate.
